Real status of the utilization of alluvial soils in the Red river bed in Phu Tho province

SUMMARY
Phu Tho province locates in the intersection of North – Eastern area, and North – Western area of the Red River Delta. The total area of the Red riverbed of the province is 1,515.82 ha, which concentrated in 4 basic LUTs. There are 4 agricultural land use types, includ: LUT1-vegetable – cash crop; LUT2-fruit tree; LUT3-Sugarcane; LUT4-stevia. Non – agricultural land is mainly residential land and specialized land (bridge, road, wharf, exploitation area for sand, gravel, construction material production). Among 4 agricultural land use types, LUT of vegetable – cash crop returned the highest economic efficiency with production value of 296.44 mil. VND/ha, mixed income was 234.94 mil. VND/ha, and capital efficiency was 3.82 times. LUT of sugarcane brought the lowest economic efficiency. In non – agricultural land (production and business land), land for wharf lease returned the highest economic efficiency with net interest of 54.95 mil. VND/ha/year and profit margin over 49%.
In order to increase the land use effectiveness of the Red riverbed of Phu Tho, LUTs of safe vegetable, stevia, and other medicinal plants need to be developed strongly, LUT of animal feed plant needs to be combined with cattle husbandary development. Uneffective LUTs as sugarcane and banana need to be reduced
