Affect of shrubby green manure cover crops in contour hedgerow farming system on soil conservation and yields of some crops on sloping ferralic acrisols
Experiment on cassava, corn and peanut on ferralic acrisols. Green hedgerow on contour line reduced soil loss and maintained productivity. Green hedgerows, such as Tephrosia candila, Vetiver grass and especially double rows by Tephrosia candila and Vetiver grass reduced soil loss from ~ 46% to 79% in comparison to check plot. These hedgerows supplied amount of green manure from 1.5 to 8.9 tons/ha/year. So that it does not only maintains but also increases the crop yield.
