Survey and assessment on the actual situation of environmental management
at the rice mills in Thoi Lai district, Can Tho City

SUMMARY
The study was carried out to aim at assessing the actual situation of environmental management in these rice mills and the impact of such factors as concentration of dust and intensity of vibration on the environment. The key findings of study shows that amongst 12 rice mills, intensity of vibration in the workplaces and the surrounding areas of 5 mills cause more noisy than the standard level (41.67%), and 2 of them have higher concentration of dust than allowed (16.67%) (pursuant to QD 3733/QD-BYT and QCVN 05: 2009-BTNMT, QCVN 26:2010-BTNMT). Additionally, 2 rice mills had environmental impact reports, 8 mills operated environment protection projects, and 2 mills have no action. At period of survey, these 12 rice mills, however, did not have periodic environment monitoring activities to control pollution levels.
