Summary
Characteristics of coastal arenosol soil and present utilization in Northern central region
Extent of coastal arenosols in the region is 206,698 ha. Natural fertility of this soils has an upward tendency in organic matter, total N, total P, soluble P and CEC by comparison with that’s sixties but is still low. Although there is soil fertility constraint, with even relief, light coarse texture and easy access, some 79,076 ha of this soil category has been utilized in agriculture of which 60,818 ha for rice, 49,621 ha for protective forest. Unused soil has an extent of 41,775 ha, including 35,064 ha sandy dune. Economic efficiency er area unit has been increasing but is still low in comparison with country’s average, which ranges between 15-20 million VDN/ha.
