Influence of integrated rice and duck farming system on soil bulk density, rice yield and pests
Integrated rice and duck farming is spreading is Mekong delta. To understand the effect of this system, 6 field experiments were conducted in 2000-2001. 4 treatments with N fertilizer applied on rice at the rate of 0,40, 80, 120N/ha, 2 treatments with N fertilizer applied on rice-ducks at rate 0 and 40N. Grain yield of 40N/ha + ducks was as high as that of 80 N/ha. Soil bulk density in rice-duck treatments were lower than that of rice without duck treatments. Reduction of pest has been recorded in the rice-duck treatments.
