Soil constraints for Pepper production in Phu Quoc Islands, Kiengiang Province

SUMMARY

Pepper is the specialty production of Phu Quoc,Vietnam in general and in particular, and have high economic value. But in recent years due to market price volatility, pepper in Phu Quoc is not invested and appllied of science and technology, the area of production, declining productivity, the declining ß soil fertility and pepper production. It can be due to farming techniques is improper, causing soil decline, disease, then lowering yield and production in Phu Quoc.

The result from interviewing of 60 farmers and pepper garden soil analysis showing that the sypmtom of soil decline due to leaching of nutrients. It can be due to the application of fertilizer which could not improved soil fertility. The use of very litle of unprocessed manure mixed to soil about 2% which could not improved soil fertility and pepper production. However, even high amount of manure still not yet improve production and it still lower than other area..

Since, it need to recommend to farmer for using of fertilizer and also soil fertility improvement techniques for better sustainable production, which provide the necessary nutrients for plants
