Primary results on research and sloping land use testing in Luong Son, Hoa Binh 1999-2000
Main causes of land degradation in the project area are natural hazards and negative man-made factors. The main effective measures to combat land degradation are: to rehabilitate vegetable coverage by integrated agroforestry system to conserve soil fertility to ensure sustainable use of sloping land,; to plant perennial crops (industrial crops, fruit trees…) with high economic value on sloping land; to apply advanced farming systems and technology to keep ecological balance in hill and mountain region in particular; to use drought resistant, fast growing species in particular native ones, including legumes and other species combined with community – based agroforestry schemes.
