Summary

The initial research results on the waste water treatment containing Pb2+ and Cd2+ from chemical labs

Natural zeolite contained a complement of exchangeable Na, K, and Ca ions but exposing them to 2M NaCl solution at 22 and 70oC, converted them to a near homoionic state in Na-form. Results: adsorbing behaviors of Pb2+ and Cd2+ on both of natural zeolites and treated zeolites were attached on the surface of mineral by difference ion exchange process. While ion exchange process, larger part of ion Pb and Cd moved to pores in mineral surfaces. Other part exchanged with cations such as Na, Ca, and Mg by replacement mechanism. The diffusion was high for the beginning and then gradually decrease. Pb and Cd removal results using natural zeolites and treated zeolites showed that treatment improved both the exchange capacity and the removal efficiency in the range of waste water concentration containing 1 mmol/l of Pb2+ and Cd2+. Removal efficiency is 95% and 99% for Pb and Cd respectively.
