Summary
Nitrogen mineralization in Artemia ponds
Big constraint of reducing cyst yield of artemia cultivation on saline soil areas. Hypotheses of this problem is N mineralization of soil ponds, releasing N available to the water column. Top soil samples (0-5cm) of 14 artemia pond were collected to study the relation between soil chemical properties and soil N mineralization. The pond where algae bloom has always occurred contains high organic matter and high soil N released. There is no correlation between total N, soil pH, C/N, organic matter and soil N mineralization in aerobic laboratory incubation. Strong correlation was found between labile organic N and N mineralization at 7 days incubation. These results suggest that labile organic N could be used to estimate soil mineralization in artemia ponds, which relate to algae bloom. If combine the soil N released with the management of inorganic and organic fertilizer, the problem of algae bloom can be controlled.
