Chemical fertilizers and food production in Vietnam
During the last two decades the increase in crop yield was mainly attributed to the use of chemical fertilizers. In 1990 fertilization rate applied for1 ha increased by 318.6 % compared with 1980 and in 1994 it increased by 471.8% compared with 1980. Application of 1 ton of N+P2O5+K2O gives an increase of 10-13 tons of paddy. Fort he last 5 years, chemical fertilizer has increased gross output by 25-27% or 70-75% of total yield increase.
