Summary
Soil characteristics of Vietnam in relation with fertilization
Vietnam soil resources limited in area, diversified in category. It could not increase soils fertility by labour investment only but it needs material investment. Transferring to intensive agriculture producing commodities requires fertilization increasing in quantity, balancing in kind of nutrient. Priority to supply nitrogen fertilizer to rice, maize, sugarcane, tea, jute, coffee, rubber… sown on alluvial soils, grey degraded soils. Phosphate prior to supply for rice, maize, legumes, coffee, rubber… grown on acid alluvial soils, acid sulphate soils, acrisols or acric ferralsols.
Potash is used to rice, maize, sugar cane, tuber crops, tea, coffee, black pepper, fruit trees on sandy soils, degraded soils, red-brown ferralsols basalts… mezzo and micro nutrient deficiency like Bo, Mo in legumes and coffee, S I tea and coffee, maize, rice; Zn in coffee, Mg in pine apple… using sea water in one of the promising way to produce micro nutrients. Mixed fertilizers, compound fertilizers with concentrated nutrient became guideline to produce and import fertilizer. Required Network of fertilizer efficiency study covering all the agro-ecological zone throughout country.
