Studying the impacts of urbanization and agricultural land acquisition process on the livelihood of farmers in Dan Phuong district, Ha Noi city

SUMMARY
The urbanization in Dan Phuong district has caused a significant change on the agricultural land fund, and many impacts on the livelihood of farmers. The reducing of agricultural land fund leads to the decline on the agricultural output and the increase on land using value. For illustration, in Tan Lap commune, the land using value has increased from VND10-12m./sqm in 2010 to VND25-30m./sqm in 2015 and from 8-m./sqm to 18-25m./sqm respectively in Song Phuong commune. Moreover, the valuable assets of farmer households in this period has rapidly went up as well.
The urbanization also contributes on declining the unemployment situation after harvest in rural areas and creates more job opportunities for the farmers apart from the traditional farming. The study shows that the income of many farmer households has raised but been not steady as the instability of the secondary job. Therefore, the local authority should seek for detailed solutions for job training, secondary job transaction, reimburse fund using guide and resettlement support to help the farmers with a stable livelihood after land acquisition process.
