Some basic properties of fly ash from Phalai thermoelectric plant and influence of fly ash on microorganisms in Haplic Acrisols

SUMMARY
The article focus on some basic properties of fly ash to make a scienticfic foundation to apply fly ash in soil and its microbe improvement. The results show that, fly ash mainly consits of Quatz (SiO2) and Mullite (Al2Si2O13), having small sizes, which is about 1-8 μm with spheral structure. Particle size of 0,05-1,0mm and 0,05-0,01 account for 56,54% and 28,50% respectively and high content of nutritious elements such as K: 23,55%, Ca: 0,46%, Mg: 0,98%; fly ash has alkaline characteristic (pH=9,45), the content of main oxides are SiO2: 49,52%; Al2O3: 19,01%; Fe2O3: 5,25%; the content of heavy metals such as Cu, Pb. Zn is low enough to reuse fly ash for soil improvement and environmental treatment. Fertilizing fly ash has improved some main groups of microorganism, e.g. total number of microorganism has increased 2.911 times, number of microorganisms with ability of cellulose decomposition has increased 1.772 times, bacteria has increased 231 times in CT2-5% of fly ash in comparision with control sample (CT1). The ratio suggested for soil improvement is 5% of fly ash in combination with fertilizing NPK and green bean cultivation.
