Initial research on domestic wastewater treatment of Pistia stratiotes l. and Ceratophyllum demersum

SUMMARY
Domestic wastewater with high content of pollutant can cause water pollution. Using aquatic macrophytes to treat wastewater is an effective solution to address environmental pollution of domestic wastewater. Thus, the research “initial research domestic wastewater treatment of Pistia stratiotes L. and Ceratophyllum demersum” was carried out at Long An dormitory, Can Tho university. The results showed that in term of Pistia stratiotes L., the removal efficiency of TN, TP, COD, BOD obtained 71.10%; 96.01%; 82.61%; 83.49% respectively, whereas regarding Ceratophyllum demersum, the removal efficiency of TN, TP, COD, BOD constituted 53.63%; 95.10%; 72.55%; 64.57%.Total N in Pistia stratiotes L. was estimated from 3.11 % to 4.07% and total N in Ceratophyllum demersum was found between 1.87% and 2.44%. Total P in Pistia stratiotes L. was recorded from 1.30% to 1.51% while total P in Ceratophyllum demersum had between 1.21% and 1.39%.
